Bosnia & Herzegovina takes on Cyprus on Thursday, August 28, at the Spyros Kyprianou Arena in Cyprus.
In their last four FIBA-sanctioned matchups, Bosnia & Herzegovina swept Cyprus, with the most recent coming in the form of a 108-62 blowout. Despite Cyprus holding the home court advantage in Thursday's game, they have a mountain to climb to beat their opponents.
Leading Bosnia & Herzegovina's campaign this year is veteran big man Jusuf Nurkic. Nurkic is coming off a down year in the NBA, in which he averaged 8.9 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. These numbers were his lowest since his sophomore year in 2016.
But Nurkic is still a force to reckon with in the international game. He has an adept inside-outside offensive game, and he can control the rebounds.
Bosnia & Herzegovina also won three of their seven preparation games, which is good enough to create some momentum.
On the flip side, Cyprus makes history as they play in the EuroBasket for the first time. Naturalized player Darral Willis is a marked man on this side, along with sharpshooter Konstantinos Simitzis and veteran Nikolaos Stylianou.
However, Cyprus only had two preparation games, losing by a wide margin to both to Israel and Serbia.
