Group A of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will deliver its verdict on Monday. One of the two highlights of the third matchday pits Comoros against Mali at the Mohamed V Stadium in Casablanca. The Coelacanths are stuck at the bottom of the group. They have only picked up one point after their first two games. The Comoros still have a slim chance of qualifying for the round of 16 in this tournament. However, they will have no choice at the start of this week: they must win.
Mali is not willing to let that happen. The Eagles are among the underdogs in this tournament, but they are not yet guaranteed a place in the knockout stages. After a draw in their opening match against Zambia (1-1), they showed improvement by holding the host country, Morocco, to a draw (1-1). Tom Saintfiet's men will do everything they can to get their first win and reach the round of 16 of this 2025 AFCON.

The Comoros knew it would not be easy to fight for a place in the round of 16 of this 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Playing in Group A, they had a difficult start. In their opening match, the Coelacanths were logically defeated by Morocco, the host country and big favorite of the tournament (2-0).
The team coached by Stefano Cusin managed to raise their heads a little in their next match, securing a draw against Zambia (0-0). With one point to their name, they still have a chance of reaching the knockout stages, but they will have to win.
If successful, Mali would qualify for the round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
For its part, Mali has its destiny in its own hands. Although it has yet to win after its first two games in Group A, it has managed to gain momentum at the start of the competition. In their debut in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Eagles were held to a last-minute draw by Zambia (1-1).
Nevertheless, they managed to respond in the best possible way in the highly anticipated clash against Morocco. Brahim Diaz opened the scoring from the penalty spot, but Lassine Sinayoko responded with a penalty of his own. This secured a valuable 1-1 draw and moved Mali into second place.

In this group stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the Comoros can count on an excellent goalkeeper in Yannick Pandor. Brilliant against Morocco despite conceding two goals, he then kept a clean sheet against Zambia. The Coelacanths are now hoping to get on the scoresheet in this tournament.
Myziane Maolida, formerly of OL and OGC Nice, thought he had scored in the previous match, but his goal was disallowed for a foul. He will not be the only Comoros striker looking to make his mark. Rafiki Saïd had a great opportunity to shine when his team took on Morocco.
Lassine Sinayoko has made a strong start to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with Mali.
As for Mali, Hamari Traoré and Sikou Niakaté have not yet been able to play in this 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, as they arrived injured. The good news is that Yves Bissouma was able to return to action, playing almost an hour against Morocco. He offers the Eagles another option in midfield, alongside Mamadou Sangaré and Kamory Doumbia.
To top it all off, Lassine Sinayoko is in great form. With six goals in Ligue 1 for AJ Auxerre, the Malian striker has already scored twice in this 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. He will be one to watch closely again on Monday evening.
