The 34-28-6 Detroit Red Wings take on the 23-34-11 Columbus Blue Jackets in the Motor City on Tuesday. The Red Wings have been on the slide for the last three weeks, losing eight of their last nine. Defensively, they have been poor all season, but they have conceded an average of 5.25 goals per game in those eight losses, so have been particularly poor. That included six from the Penguins on Sunday, a team who had scored one or fewer in six of their preceding 11 games before the Red Wings came to town. A 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres ended a losing run for the Wings in their most recent home game and they will be hoping that Little Caesars Arena is good to them again.
It has been another season languishing at the bottom of the Metropolitan for the Blue Jackets and this is the first of five on the road for them with the Colorado Avalanche who have the best home record in the league next up. They were shut out by the Montreal Canadiens in their most recent road game. That was just the second shutout of the season for the Habs (the other against the Anaheim Ducks) with the Jackets thrashed by the Winnipeg Jets last time out, 1-6. Just the Ducks and the San Jose Sharks have leaked more at the back this season than the Jackets so a trip to the 6th highest goalscorers in Detroit is not a good-looking matchup for them.
