The surging Columbus Blue Jackets will look to build on their momentum on Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.
With playoff hopes fading, the Blue Jackets replaced head coach Dean Evason with Rick Bowness on Jan. 12, which has been a masterstroke. Wednesday’s 5-3 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers brought Columbus’ record under the new coaching regime to 6-1-0.
Columbus has been incredibly high-scoring under Bowness and recently showed its defensive potential in a 1-0 win over the Dallas Stars. Led by Zach Werenski, the Blue Jackets will be confident of containing a Connor Bedard-led Blackhawks offense on Friday.
Bedard has been incredible this season, amassing 49 points (20 goals, 29 assists) in 40 appearances. Before suffering a shoulder injury in December, Bedard was in contention for the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s highest scoring player.
Chicago was riding high early in the campaign before hitting a wall in November. Since the start of the year, the team has tried to pick up the pace again, but Jeff Blashill’s side has already had two losing streaks of at least three games in January.
