The Columbus Blue Jackets visit the Buffalo Sabres, and that’s actually a good thing from their perspective. Columbus has done quite well for itself away from home this season, winning its past three away. At home, of course, it’s a different story; the Blue Jackets have just one win all season.
Columbus’ biggest problem is that it has taken far too many penalties. The Blue Jackets have the worest penalty kill in the NHL, as two of every five penalties they take results in a goal. That’s far too many, especially against a team like Buffalo, which has found success with the man advantage. The Sabres have hit on the power play in four of their past six games, and giving them opportunities could be very costly.

Buffalo is the opposite of Columbus. The Sabres have just one point away from home, but have hardly been scratched lately in western New York. Buffalo has won all four of its past four home games by two goals or more, covering the puckline every time.
The Sabres’ biggest weakness is that they aren’t winning the faceoff often enough. But that’s not reallyt the biggest concern when facing Columbus. The Blue Jackets win the faceoff just fine, but they allow so many shots on goal that it doesn’t make much of a difference. Buffalo is going to get plenty of looks at the net, and the Sabres are likely to cash in a few of them when they come. Unless Columbus stays out of the box, it’s hard to see the road surge continuing. Our prediction for Columbus vs. Buffalo is for the Sabres to win.
