The San Francisco Giants (39-55, 20-25 Home) will try to bounce back today in Game 2 of their three-game weekend series at Oracle Park with the Colorado Rockies (39-57, 17-3 Away) at 4:05 p.m. EST, after last night’s disappointing ending.
San Francisco took a 2-0 lead into the ninth inning, only to blow it when Caleb Kilian surrendered three runs, putting the Rockies on top 4-2. The Giants managed to score one run in the bottom half of the inning but couldn’t tie the game or retake the lead.
Fans should not expect another relatively low-scoring outing today with the two pitchers scheduled to take the mound. Colorado’s Kyle Freeland is 2-7 in 16 starts with a 7.46 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. He has yet to win on the road in eight tries (0-5), has an 8.62 road ERA, and teams are hitting .341against him away from home.
As for the Giants, they’ll be sending Tyler Mahle to the mound to start the day. Mahle is 1-8 in 14 starts with a 5.70 ERA and a 1.49 WHIP. However, he hasn’t been too bad at home, where he is 1-3 in seven starts, but with a 3.32 ERA and .213 OBA at Oracle Park.

I’d like to say that Tyler Mahle’s success at home is reason enough to lean towards taking the Giants to win, but I can’t. it doesn’t help that he went just 4 1/3 innings and gave up eight hits and three earned runs in his last outing, which happened to be vs. the Rockies in Denver. Freeland has surrendered 6+ runs in four of his last five road starts. Yeah, we are going to see some runs scored in this game today.
