In a comical turn of events, a group of Mets fans gathered outside Citi Field to perform a ritual to break the team's abysmal 12-game losing streak. It seems to have worked, as the Mets climbed out of the slump by winning the last two games of the three-game series against the Twins. Back in New York, they now await the visit of the Rockies, where they are -225 favorites to win their third straight game.
The Mets face a challenge of historic proportions; never before in MLB history has a team reached the playoffs after a losing streak of 12 or more games. The New Yorkers find themselves in this predicament, and beyond blaming manager Mendoza, they will need to string together offensive nights like the one on Thursday. Bichette, whom some exaggeratedly called the worst trade the Mets ever made after spending a fortune on him, at least began to silence his critics on Thursday against the Twins: he went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs. These Mets were without Soto for several days, but while the Dominican was on the injured list, Puerto Rican Lindor went on with a calf injury.
The Mets have won all of their last 8 games against the Rockies and will look to continue that streak this weekend.
