The Colorado Rockies (23-43 SU,33-33 ATS) attempt to win a series for just the fifth time this season when they end their series with the Minnesota Twins (35-31 SU, 29-37 ATS). As poor as the Rockies have been this season, they’ve actually played decent baseball against the AL Central. They won their series against the division-leading Cleveland Guardians, and they’ve earned a split with Minnesota heading into the rubber match.
They also might be catching the Twins at the right time, because something seems off with Pablo Lopez. The Twins’ pitcher has kept his ERA around 3.6 for the past four seasons, but this year, his ERA is already at 5.45. In his past four starts, he has one strong outing where he went seven innings and only allowed one run. In the other three, he gave up 20 runs combined and never made it past the fifth inning.

The Twins came into this series looking to get right after getting trashed by the Yankees and the Pirates. So far, that really hasn’t happened. They had an easy time of things in the series opener because Chris Paddack pitched a gem into the seventh inning and the Rockies’ bullpen broke down.
Lopez doesn’t seem likely to do that with what he’s shown lately. The potential for a gem is always there with him, but 2024 just does not seem to be his year. Ironically, Austin Gomber has been much more effective this season, when their role are usually reversed. Gomber’s ERA usually sits around 5.50, but this year, it’s at 3.38 and he’s not given up more than four runs to anyone this season. Lopez’s struggles and Gomber’s consistency mean there’s no way Minnesota should be favored to this extent. But because it’s Colorado, it’s important to get in and get out to avoid the damage the Rockies’ bullpen can do to a potential win. The value still exists on the first five bet; our prediction for Colorado vs. Minnesota is for the Rockies to win the first five innings.
