The Colorado Rockies and Miami Marlins open their respective 2026 MLB seasons today in Game One of a three-game series at loanDepot Park. The action is set to get underway at 7:10 p.m. EST with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
Colorado is coming off a dismal 2025 season that saw them manage to win just 43 games, and it is hard to say whether they’ll be much better this season. They have a lot of young talent in guys like Ezequiel Tovar, Hunter Goodman, Brenton Doyle, and Jordan Beck, but the team needs them to take a big step forward this season for the Rockies to have a shot at becoming competitive. The Rockies have a veteran rotation with guys like Kyle Freeland, Michael Lorenzen, Jose Quintana, and Tomoyuki Sugano. But the pitching staff had a 5.97 ERA last season, so that’s not encouraging.
As for Miami, after the Marlins won 79 games last year, many are wondering whether they can take a step forward and possibly contend for a playoff spot. Sandy Alcantara and Eury Perez give them a solid one-two in the rotation. The bullpen should be better with the additions of John King and Pete Fairbanks. However, the Marlins are a fairly young team overall and could need another year of development before becoming contenders.

Our Miami Marlins vs Colorado Rockies Prediction
Whenever there is a pitching matchup between two guys that had ERAs over 5.0 (or close to it) that screams “OVER” to me. Teams hit close to .300 last season against Freeland last season and .247 against Alcantara. I’d expect the Miami lineup to do most of the damage against Freeland with the Rockies tagging Alcantara to get the final score OVER the TOTAL.
