The Cincinnati Reds will try to win their 50th game of the season going into the All-Star break with a victory over the Colorado Rockies at home today. Game time at Great American Ball Park is scheduled for 1:40 p.m. EST.
Each team has won one game in this three-game weekend series. The Rockies took the opener on Friday, 3-2. German Marquez put the team on track for a win with six solid innings of work as the starter, giving up five hits and one earned run. But it was a wild pitch in the eighth that gave Hunter Goodman a chance to score the winning run. The Reds won yesterday, 4-3. Brady Singer held the Rockies to three runs in 6 1/3 innings, but he was in line to get the loss until the Reds scored two in the ninth to steal a win.
Austin Gomber is scheduled to start for the Rockies. Gomber is 0-2 in five starts with a 5.92 ERA and 1.56 WHIP; teams are hitting .320 against him this season. Nick Martinez will start for the Reds. Martinez is 6-9 in 18 starts (20 appearances) with a 4.85 ERA and 1.21 WHIP; teams are hitting .261 against him.
