Colorado Rapids host Real Salt Lake in the Rocky Mountain Cup, and if the past is any indication, there will be goals coming. Specifically, there will be goals coming for the visitors, and probably for both sides. The last time Colorado put up a clean sheet against their rivals from Utah, the COVID-19 vaccine wasn’t yet a thing. It’s been 13 matches since RSL faced the Rapids and didn’t put something in the net.
And that wouldn’t be surprising, because defense has been a problem for Colorado. The Rapids’ most recent clean sheet was March 29 against Charlotte, and the Royals had both the travel and elevation working against them. Western Conference teams don’t run into the same problems against the Rapids, because they’ve been coming to Denver and Salt Lake for years and know how to play at elevation. The last time Colorado kept a clean sheet against a Western Conference team? June 15, 2024 against Austin FC.
