On Saturday, the Edmonton Oilers 40-21-3 will host the Colorado Avalanche 42-20-5 in the teams' first matchup of the season. The Oilers have won four consecutive games at home, although they're still trailing Vancouver in the Pacific Division. Even though the Oil is well known for their offense, their defense has played well lately, holding eight of their past nine opponents to two goals or less. Projected starter Stuart Skinner has held five consecutive opponents to two goals or less and hasn't posted a save percentage of less than .920 in any of his past five starts.
But Edmonton hasn't yet shown that it can handle Colorado, which comes in riding a five-game surge. The Avalanche have exploded for 35 goals in their past eight contests, seven of which have gone in the win column. Colorado has also dominated on defense as of late; six of its past seven wins have seen its opponent score two goals or fewer. Projected started Alexandar Georgiev boasts a .925 save percentage in his past three starts, all of which have been victories. However, Georgiev has performed much better at home than on the road, as his past five road starts have seen him concede at least three markers.
