Game two of the series where the Colorado Avalanche have a 1-0 advantage over the Dallas Stars. The Stars ran out into a 3-0 lead in the first period before the Avs fought back to level the score in the first minute of the final frame before winning in overtime. The Stars will be desperate not to let game two slip as the Avs had the strongest home record of any team in the league during the regular season. The way that the Stars started the game made it look like it was going to be a whitewash but perhaps the long seven-game slog against the Vegas Golden Knights just started to tell.
Valeri Nichushkin continued his torrid goalscoring pace this postseason, netting his 8th in just the Avs 6th game. It was the powerplay that got the Avs back into things, their first two goals both coming with the man advantage, a perfect 2/2 in the chances they were given. The Stars penalty kill is only 64.5% so far in the playoffs which will have the Avs licking their lips in anticipation of further chances as the series progresses. Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar and Mikko Rantanen all picked up multiple points in game one, something that the Avs will be looking for each game as the team runs on their top line.
