The weekend series between the Cleveland Guardians (30-22) and the Philadelphia Phillies (25-25) will begin tonight in Philadelphia.
Cleveland is coming into the series on the back of a 6-game winning streak. After winning 2 of the last 3 in their series with the Reds, the Guardians completed a 4-game road sweep of the Detroit Tigers. It was pitching that made their last 3 games winnable. While they only scored a total of 10 runs, they were able to hold opponents to just 6 total runs.
Philly has been strong ever since they made their managerial change. Don Mattingly has seemed to be the change this team needed in leadership. They have fought their way back to .500 on the season, but are facing a possible 3-game losing streak here. They lost their last 2 games to the Reds, but will have their top arm on the mound here tonight.
The Phillies will start Cristopher Sanchez, who is 5-2 with a 1.82 ERA. Gavin Williams will go for the Guardians, who have also been stout this season. He is 6-3 with a 3.67 ERA. With both teams hitting under .235 and ranking outside the top 25 in MLB, runs may be tough to come by in this series-opening game.

This should be the strongest pitching matchup of the series. Sanchez is coming off a complete game shutout against the Pirates in his last start. He struck out 13 and only allowed 6 hits in the win. Gavin Williams went 6 strong against the Reds in his last start. He allowed just 2 runs and struck out 7 in the win. We like both to pitch well again here and hold the scoring to a minimum. If they can go deep in the game, there is no chance these teams will post more than 7 runs.
