The Yankees won the first game of the series against the Guardians at Yankee Stadium. That victory marked their 11th in the last 15 games before losing Game 2. With this, they put behind them the series loss against the Dodgers, where they were able to salvage the last game.

Game 1 between the Yankees and Guardians in the Bronx ended 3-2 and was a game in which the starters were led by a home run by Chisholm Jr., who rejoined the team after being on the 10-Day IL. Williams also returned to the closer's spot, once again given the confidence by Boone to get the final three outs after Weaver temporarily handed him the closer's job. Williams recorded the save, just his sixth of the season, although he conceded a run that kept the game within a margin and didn't inspire much confidence among Yankees fans.

The Yankees managed just five hits in Game 1, and in Game 2, they managed just five again, this time costing them the game. The Guards scored three runs in the first inning, and Manzardo hit his 11th home run of the season to seal the final score at 4-0.
