After losing a series against the Tigers in the Little League Classic, the Yankees are tied with the Orioles for the AL East lead. They will host the Guardians in a promising series. The Guardians had a comfortable lead over the Twins for most of the season, but Minnesota has been the best team since the All-Star Game and the Guardians have a lead of just 2 games over the Twins.
Gil is the Yankees' scheduled pitcher to open the series in New York. After a great start and a bad July, Gil has continued to mix good starts with bad ones. The last one was a bad one when he took the loss against the White Sox and allowed 4 ER in 4.0 IP.
Veteran Boyd will be the pitcher for the Guardians, he returned after undergoing Tommy John surgery and did quite well, pitching 5.1 innings against the White Sox, allowing them only 1 ER and striking out 6. Boyd has not faced the Yankees since 2019.
In 2024 the Yankees won the series in Cleveland by 2-1, in a fairly close betting match. Yankees have won 7 of the last 10 games with Guardians.
