On Wednesday, the Yankees lost again, while the Guardians won 3-2 in Queens. Although they positioned themselves as sellers at the trade deadline, they are only 1.5 games away from the final wild card spot in the American League.

It was through an RBI single by Kwan that the Guardians took a 3-2 lead against the Mets; the Mets had started as -165 favorites in the betting, but ended up losing.

With this, the Mets moved within 2.5 games of the Phillies; they have a losing record of 11-13 since July 6.

In Game 3 of this series, the Mets enter on a three-game losing streak and will try to avoid an unusual sweep at Citi Field. Pitching for the Mets will be David Peterson, who has a 7-4 record and 127 IP this season; he's pitched exactly six innings in each of his last three starts.
