The Cleveland Guardians (40-21 SU, 35-26 ATS) attempt to take advantage of the reeling Miami Marlins (21-41 SU, 25-37 ATS) as they open a three-game series in South Florida. Cleveland continues to sit on top of the AL Central, in part because the Guardians have played very well on the road. The Guardians’ 19 wins rank second in the majors, behind only the Yankees.
Meanwhile, the Marlins have been the worst bet in the National League. At 22.5 games back of first place, they’re not catching the Phillies, and they even sit six games back of the struggling Mets and Nationals. Even with MLB’s forgiving playoff format and just four teams in the National League owning a winning record, the Marlins still look cooked in the first week of June.

Logan Allen is a little inconsistent, as he’s unleashed two disasters in his past five starts. For the year, Allen’s ERA has risen two full runs compared to last year, even as he’s gotten to six victories. He tends to be a better pitcher on the road, oddly enough, as his road ERA is just 4.38 compared to a 7.33 mark at home.
Miami’s going off at a low price because Ryan Weathers has pitched well in his past several starts. He’s given up three runs or less in five of his past six starts, and he’s gone at least 90 pitches in all of them. But he did allow four runs last time out against Texas, and he’s not been as effective at home. Plus, the Guardians are simply a much better team than Miami. When you can get them at a lower price, it’s worth taking advantage of it. Our prediction for Cleveland vs. Miami is for the Guardians to win.
