The Angels' season-opening start was promising, with a 4-1 record leading the AL West, but the bullpen seemed to slump in the following games, and the Guardians' relentless offense took advantage.

In Opening Night at Angel Stadium, the Angels lost 6-8 to the Guardians. Soriano didn't have a good second start but managed to pitch five innings, allowing five hits and five earned runs. The Angels' bullpen's combined ERA now exceeds 7.15, and only the Rockies and Brewers have lower ERAs.

Of course, the most notable aspect of Game 1 was Jose Ramírez's three home runs. The left-hander hit all three of them to right field, the last of them off a high fastball. The top of the Guardians' lineup appears to be one of the most skilled with the bat, with Kwan, Ramírez, Santana, and Kyle Manzardo off to a solid start to the 2025 season, driving in eight runs. In that loss, Trout also hit a home run for the Angels, his second of the season.

The ball seems to fly more at Angel Stadium, as later in Game 2, Santana hit his first home run of the season for the Guardians, and Rengifo and Soler did the same for the Angels, all in the first inning.
