In 2025, the Guardians won four of their six games against the Royals, all by a margin of three runs or more. Starting Friday, they meet again at Kauffman Stadium to set up the weekend series.

Of the two teams, arguably, Cleveland once again enters this series in the better position. In the days before the All-Star Game and the week after, they managed to rack up 11 wins in 13 games. From there, they swept the Astros in Houston in a key series. Then came a stretch of schedule against teams with losing records, and the Guardians took advantage to win three games against the White Sox, two against the Athletics, and three more against the Orioles.

Guardians manager Vogt said he was pleased with the team's post-All-Star attitude, but said the series against the Royals this weekend would be difficult. However, the Guardians have played great baseball against division rivals, so much so that they have a 17-9 record there.

The Royals, meanwhile, are coming off an 8-4 win in the final game of the series against the Cubs on Wednesday, where Vinnie Pasquantino hit two home runs.
