The NL Central teams are fiercely competing, led by the Cincinnati Reds, who, in addition to their 16-8 record, are currently riding a five-game winning streak. Everything has gone their way at Tropicana Field, and on Wednesday afternoon, they intend to sweep the Rays.
Tuesday was an incredibly good day for Franconna's squad. It all started with a two-run homer by Elly De La Cruz, his seventh of the season. However, Hayes, Myers, and Steer also hit home runs. In the ninth inning, Elly capped the offensive night with his eighth home run of 2026. Even their baserunning looked impressive; a video of Myers dodging the catcher's tag at home plate went viral.
On Tuesday, the Rays mounted a late rally, putting together four runs in the ninth inning to make the final score 12-6. Even so, Tampa's top hitters are doing well: Caminero went 2-for-4 and Aranda 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. The Rays' record fell to 11-12, after having previously lost a series at Tropicana against a divisional team like the Reds or the Cubs.

The Reds scored 12 runs on 10 hits on Tuesday and intend to target Nick Martinez, who will take the mound for the Rays on Wednesday. Despite allowing 8 hits in 5.1 innings against the Pirates in his last outing, he emerged relatively unscathed, allowing only 2 ER. The 35-year-old veteran will try to tame Cincinnati's lineup, which has been more unstoppable than ever in the last year.
Even so, this afternoon's game could bring several hits because there's no guarantee that the Reds' starter, Brandon Williamson, will strike out every batter, especially the Rays' leadoff hitters. For now, he has a high ERA of 4.36 and has issued more walks than strikeouts.
