The Cincinnati Reds (48-53 SU, 55-46 ATS) try to close out their series with the Atlanta Braves (54-45 SU, 44-55 ATS) with a victory after getting off the schneid last time out. The Reds had dropped four straight prior to beating the Braves, but they came back with a solid performance in holding Atlanta to just one run.
A repeat might be difficult, given that Frankie Montas is struggling at the moment. The two previous opponents should have been reasonable, given the relative weakness of Washington and Colorado. But Montas gave up a combined 12 earned runs in that stretch, and the Reds took the loss both times. Even though Montas has pitched decently this season, the Reds have lost six of his past seven starts.

There are two big reasons for Cincinnati to be positive going into this game. The first is that Braves starter Allan Winans is making just his second start of the year. His first start was a disaster, as the Mets tagged him for six earned runs in five innings and the Braves responded by sending him back to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Winans has pitched well in Triple-A, but it’s unclear if he’s fixed what went wrong earlier or if he’s simply a Triple-A pitcher. The other factor in the Reds’ corner is that they seem to consistently play well against Atlanta. Cincinnati’s five defeats against the Braves have all come by a single run. Whether it’s the Braves letting them hang around or the Reds stepping up their play, Atlanta just never seems to put any distance between itself and Cincinnati. Unfortunately, the value on the Reds on the runline just isn’t there, so our prediction for Cincinnati vs. Atlanta is for the Braves to win, probably by a single run again.
