Chivas de Guadalajara arrived in New York to face a New York Red Bull team that had lost three of its last four MLS matches. Guadalajara, in their final Liga MX match before traveling to Red Bull Arena, had scored four or more goals for the first time in 2025, so it was assumed they would score at least one in the Leagues Cup. This ultimately didn't happen, and Guadalajara again showed their lack of clarity in the third quarter, and what worked best for them were 20-yard shots, none of which went in. As if that weren't enough, they lost the match in the most painful way, in the final minute, when Forsberg scored a free kick on the final play.
By the nature of the Leagues Cup, losing the first match is almost fatal, but amid the frustration of what happened to them against NY Red Bulls, they must prepare for their match against Charlotte, who are seventh in the MLS.
It's possible that, after Charlotte was shocked by Juárez and also lost 4-1 in their debut, a surprising result among the betting experts, they decided to defend their MLS achievements and put the Leagues Cup on the back burner, but they risk cutting short the excellent momentum they had in this competition, winning four MLS matches in a row and putting themselves firmly in the playoff spot.
