The Texas Rangers (51-50, 25-23 Home) will go for the series win today when they host the Chicago White Sox (53-47, 22-30 Away) in Game 3 of their three-game series. Fans can follow the action at Globe Life Field in Arlington, TX, at 8:095 p.m. EST with coverage provided by MLB.TV.
Games 1 and 2 of this series could not be more different than they are. Chicago took Game 1 on Monday with a productive offense and solid defense, 10-3. But the Rangers turned the tide in Game 2 yesterday, scoring ten runs and shutting the White Sox out.
Both teams will end up leaning heavily on their bullpens today. Texas is giving a relief pitcher, Tyler Alexander, the start. Alexander is 1-1 in 44 appearances and three starts with a 2.79 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. But Alexander seldom lasts two innings, so the bullpen will have to step up (it has a 4.26 ERA).
Chicago is going with Anthony Kay to start. Kay has a 6-4 record in 20 appearances (18 starts). But he has run into trouble at times on the road, where he is 1-2 in nine starts with a 5.80 ERA and a .244 OBA. However, he has lasted less than five innings in just three of his last eight starts. So, it would not be shocking to see Chicago turn to its pen early.

Texas has been hitting the ball well since the Break, but the lineup often seems to fade back a bit after having a big game like it had yesterday. Kay is not overly impressive, but the White Sox will probably have him on a short leash with their bullpen pitching decent (3.92 ERA, .232 OBA, 1.33 WHIP). I’m not crazy about the Rangers bullpen, but it is not like the White Sox have been killing the ball (.228 BA since the Break). I can see this being a 4-3 type of ballgame.
