Game two of the weekend series between the Philadelphia Phillies (34-29) and the Chicago White Sox (33-30) will take place this afternoon in South Philadelphia.
In game one, the Phillies jumped out to a 5-2 lead after just 2 innings of play. Chicago did not fold and fought back to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the 7th inning. Like the Sox, the Phillies rallied and scored two runs in the bottom of the 7th to take an 8-6 lead. Jhoan Duran was able to close things out in the 9th and pick up his 15th save of the season for Philly. Alec Bohm and Adolis Garcia combined to go 4-for-8 with a double and a home run in the game. Brandon Marsh also launched his 6th home run of the season. Unfortunately for Randal Grichuk, his 2-home run day was wasted on the loss.
Rookie Andrew Painter will get the start this afternoon for the Phillies. He is just 1-6 on the season with a 5.74 ERA and coming off a rough start in LA against the Dodgers last week. The White Sox will counter with what is likely to be a bullpen start. Brandon Eisert is slated to start after pitching the 6th inning last night.
With both teams starting some non-optimal starters, we could see the bats stay hot for both sides in this afternoon's matchup.
