Chicago finished 5th in their division last year with a woeful 60-102 record. They added a handful of mediocre pitchers to go along with Munetaka Murakami and Luisangel Acuna, who should be able to play a couple of positions during the season. They let veteran Luis Robert Jr go and will have limited expectations coming off that 100+ loss season.
Milwaukee had a strong season last year, finishing with a 97-65 mark and winning the NL Central. They toppled the Cubs in the NLDS but were then quickly swept by the Dodgers in the NLCS. Over the offseason, they let Freddy Peralta and Caleb Durbin go. This left a void at the top of the rotation and at 3rd base. Luis Rengifo will try to fill the hole at 3rd, while it will remain to be seen if any starter can take Peralta’s role.
Even with the question marks for the Brewers, they are still set up to be the better overall team in this matchup. The White Sox could be incrementally better than last year, but that does not mean much for a team that lost as many games as they did.

The simple thought is that Chicago is not a backable team until they prove that last year will not repeat. Even if Shane Smith has a solid start, the White Sox bullpen is not imposing, and the Brewers should be able to score enough in this one to give Misiorowski enough to get the win here at home to open the season. We like the White Sox's struggles to continue, particularly in Milwaukee.
