The Chicago White Sox (15-45 SU, 24-36 ATS) make the nine-mile trip up the Red Line to take on the Chicago Cubs (29-31 SU, 29-31 ATS) in hopes of putting an end to their long misery. The White Sox have lost 10 in a row and don’t have a win since May 21. The Pale Hose knew this was going to be a long season, but this has been a trying year for even the most optimistic White Sox fan.
However, Chris Flexen at least gives the White Sox a chance. There’s been very little to like about the White Sox, but Flexen has been one of the few bright spots on the roster. In 10 starts, he’s giving up an average of 2.6 earned runs to at least keep the White Sox in games. He’s simply had to keep going out against good teams, as his past three opponents have all been giants from the AL East.

The Cubs also need some momentum after settling into mediocrity. Actually, mediocrity might be an improvement, given that the Cubs haven’t won a series since May 12 at Pittsburgh. The Cubs have only been swept once in that stretch, but they’ve failed to win six straight series.
Starter Shota Imanage had been dominating every lineup he faced, grinding through nine straight opponents for an ERA of 0.84. That ended in Milwaukee, as the Brewers blasted him for seven earned runs in 4.1 innings, leaving Chicago on the wrong end of a 10-6 loss. That raised Imanaga’s ERA by a full run, but facing the White Sox’ punchless lineup should help him get back on track. Flexen might keep things close, but the South Siders are too weak to challenge what should be a motivated Cubs squad and Imanaga. There’s no value on the moneyline, so our prediction for Chicago vs. Chicago is Cubs -1.5.
