New York Liberty take on Chicago Sky today, and New York Liberty enter this game as Eastern Conference frontrunners. Last season they finished atop the East and have continued their strong play into 2025. Liberty were 22-13, having only lost 11 conference matches, and they have dominated opponents in score by a significant difference as well. They are led in scoring by point guard Sabrina Ionescu, who contributes approximately 19 points per contest, and center Jonquel Jones, who contributes around 15-16 points as well as strong rebounding.

New York was 5-5 in the last 10 (through mid-August) but still tops the East and owns 86.4 points per game on offense and is one of the highest-scoring teams in that category. They also boast depth: veteran Betnijah Laney and Courtney Vandersloot (when healthy) can fill the stat sheet. However, they have recent injury concerns – star forward Breanna Stewart is sidelined with a leg injury – which may impact their roster rotation. Still, the Liberty play at home and have won both season meetings against Chicago so far (by comfortable margins, e.g. 85-66 in June).

Chicago Sky, in contrast, are struggling mightily. The Sky are at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a record as poor as 8-26. They have dropped nine of their last ten games, averaging only 71.9 points in that stretch while allowing 84.9. Their young roster is still searching for consistency.
