More was expected of the Chicago Fire at this point in the 2025 season, and after suffering a loss against Cincinnati in the MLS, and an even more painful one in the US Open Cup quarterfinals against Minnesota United, the Chicago Fire, if that weren't enough, will have to host San Diego FC, the newest franchise in American soccer and the absolute surprise of the tournament. Saturday's match will be the first ever match between Chicago Fire and San Diego FC, and the betting has been set with no clear favorites for the match at Soldier Field.
San Diego FC is having a very sweet moment, especially in attack. Although they lost to the Houston Dynamo 4-3 after previously winning four matches in a row, San Diego scored three goals in the last defeat. San Diego has scored 44 goals in 21 matches; along with San Jose, they are the only teams to have scored 40 or more goals in MLS 2025. American forward Milan Iloski is in a sweet spot with goal-scoring talent. He scored four against the Vancouver Whitecaps on July 25! And in midfield, Finn Onni Valakari has also had an elite season: a goal and two assists in his last match.
Meanwhile, Chicago Fire are dealing with a seven-man injury list and have been one of the worst home teams in MLS with just two wins.
