Tampa Bay struggled to start the season on the road with losses in five of its first seven games. But they got on track towards the end of their season-opening road trip and won the last two vs. Minnesota before returning to St. Petersburg for their home opener vs. the Cubs, which they won 6-4.
With hopes of making it two in a row at home, the Rays will give Drew Rasmussen the ball to start the day. He did not factor into the decision in either of his first two starts but has allowed six hits (two home runs), three earned runs, and struck out 10 across ten innings of work (ERA 1.80, WHIP .70). Chicago is sending Javier Assad to the mound to start the day; it will be his first appearance of the season. Last year, he went 4-1 in eight appearances (seven starts) with a 3.65 ERA and 1.22 WHIP.

Rasmussen doesn’t go deep into games, but he’ll get the Rays off to a solid start with at least five good innings.
