These Cubs are definitely a streaky team. They had two impressive winning streaks of more than 10 consecutive victories each. However, from May 16 to 26, they went through a 10-game losing streak that began when they lost their last two games against their crosstown rivals, the White Sox.

Nevertheless, even though the Pirates blew them out in Game 2, they lost 1-12; they managed to split the four-game series. During the losing streak, there were many defensive errors, including some costly ones by CF Crow Armstrong, but the inability of the entire lineup to hit with runners in scoring position was also noted.

But the Cubs finally rallied on May 27 and 28. First, they beat the Pirates 10-4 in a game where Happ hit a home run that drove in Bregman and Busch, and Conforto hit one that drove in Suzuki. The Japanese pitcher went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs the following day as the Cubs also won 7-2 thanks to a strong performance from Colin Rea on the mound.
