The Chicago Cubs (41-37) and the New York Mets (34-44) will play the 3rd game of their 4-game series tonight. It will also be the 2nd game of their doubleheader today. The Cubs currently lead 6-3 midway through the 6th inning. If this score holds, the Cubs will jump to a 2-0 lead in the series.
In game one, Chicago jumped out to an early 7-2 lead through 4 innings and never really looked back. Dansby Swanson led the way for the Cubs' offense. He went 2-4 with a home run and 4 RBIs in the win. The Cubs were lucky they didn’t see the entire lead implode with Jayden Murray allowing 3 runs in the last inning.
To this point today, Swanson has continued his strong play at the plate. He hit a 3-run home run that broke the 3-3 tie in the 6th inning. Nolan McLean of the Mets has been tagged for all 6 earned runs in his 6 innings of work.
Shota Imanaga and Sean Manaea are set to start for the clubs in the 2nd game tonight. Each starter has over a 4.25 ERA on the season. That said, Imanaga has looked good in his last 2 starts. He has gone 10.2 innings and allowed just 1 earned run on a total of 7 hits against the Rockies in back-to-back starts against them. He should be the edge tonight.
