Despite the Cubs' marked dominance in recent years when playing against their crosstown rival, the White Sox, it was anticipated that this trend could change for Friday's game, and that's what happened when the White Sox won 12-5 over a Cubs team that lost their previous series against the Royals and also the division lead to the Brewers.

Colson Montgomery, the rookie sensation and shortstop for the White Sox, is determined not to be overlooked in MLB and is hotter than ever since July 18, when MLB resumed after the All-Star Break. Since then, Montgomery failed to get at least one hit on July 19; he had eight hits since the All-Star break and, before Saturday's game, had a streak of three consecutive home runs. On Friday, Montgomery homered, but young catcher Edgar Cuero stole the spotlight with a four-hit game. Leadoff hitter Meidroth went 3-for-5 in the White Sox's 12-5 rout of the Cubs in the first inning of the series.

The Cubs, through Holton, were able to win Game 2, where Happ hit his 14th home run and Shaw his 6th. The White Sox's only run in Saturday's loss was Tauchman's solo home run.
