The Chicago Cubs (16-9 SU, 17-8 ATS) look to keep their momentum rolling against the Boston Red Sox (14-12 SU, 14-12 ATS) after winning four straight games. The Cubs have mostly gotten to this point by taking advantage of opportunities, having won all but two series this year and never getting swept all season.
Boston has mostly been the kind of team that beats lesser foes but doesn’t do the job against better teams. The Red Sox got healthy off of Oakland, Pittsburgh and the Angels, going 10-2 against those three teams. Against Cleveland and Baltimore, the Red Sox went 2-8. Boston hasn’t shown that it can handle the upper crust of MLB, and with this being a bullpen game, the Cubs appear to have the edge.

This will be a bullpen game with both Ben Brown and Josh Winckowski not expected to go more than two innings. That likely means plenty of baserunners, as Boston’s bullpen tends to allow a high number of hits. The Cubs tend to drive in runs when they get men on, and their bullpen has been more of a strength than a liability to this point.
The one concern for the Cubs is what Brown brings to the table, given that he hasn’t pitched very well on the road. However, Brown’s only going to be on the mound for an inning or two, which shouldn’t be enough time for the Red Sox to cause much damage. Once the game gets to the bullpen, the Cubs should have the advantage. Our prediction for Chicago vs. Boston is for the Cubs to win.
