The month of March has not been kind to the Chicago Blackhawks (26-31-13). They have gone just 4-7 to date and have lost 4 of their last 5 games. During this stretch, the offense has continued to come up short. The Blackhawks are 29th in the league in total goals scored and have only scored 8 times in their last 5 games. Things are not going to get any easier on Tuesday night when they head into New York to face an Islander team that ranks 4th in the league in goals allowed for the season.
The Islanders (40-26-5) are currently holding on to the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Detroit is just 1 point behind, while Ottawa and Philadelphia hope to make a late push as well. The Islanders have had chances to put some separation between them and Detroit, but have lost 2 of their last 3 games and barely snuck out a 1-0 victory in their last game against Columbus. Much like Chicago, New York has struggled to score at a high volume. They are currently averaging just 2.3 goals per game over their last 6 games.
Unless New York blows the doors off this Chicago team, it will not be likely that this total reaches North of 5+ goals. It is highly more likely that this one will remain low scoring, with the edge going to New York and their top-tier defense
