After kicking off their longest road trip of the season in Winnipeg on Thursday night, the Chicago Blackhawks take on the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday at Rogers Place.
The Blackhawks suffered their sixth defeat of the season on Thursday, as Winnipeg's top line ran riot against them in a 6-3 loss. It was the third consecutive game in which Chicago allowed at least three goals.
Defensively, the team looked rock-solid through the first couple of weeks of the season and must tighten things up again to get the campaign back on track. The ongoing six-game road trip could have a significant impact on the entire year.
The Oilers complete a three-game homestand on Saturday and will want to return to winning ways after losing 4-3 in overtime to the New York Rangers on Thursday. The situation was all too familiar for the Oilers, as they rushed to a multi-goal lead before collapsing defensively.
Through the first 12 games of the season, the Oilers have scored and allowed an average of 3.17 goals per game. Their vulnerable defense has made it challenging for the back-to-back Stanley Cup finalists to find any consistency, as Connor McDavid's crew has yet to win more than two games in a row this season.
