Charlotte FC will be looking to bounce back from last week's disappointing 2-0 defeat to New York City, when they entertain bottom side Montreal at the Bank of America Stadium on Saturday night. Before that loss in the Big Apple, Charlotte had been on a terrific run of form that had moved them into the race for top spot in the Eastern Conference. However, barring an incredibly unlikely sequence of results, the best Dean Smith's side can hope for now is a second-place finish and a (theoretically) easier path through the postseason.
It has been a thoroughly miserable campaign for Montreal. They have won just five of their 31 MLS fixtures, and are more than 20 points behind the teams in the playoff positions. There have been a few signs of improvement since Marco Donadel took over as head coach following a long winless run at the start of the year, but huge offseason changes are needed if Montreal want to get back into the playoff picture next season.
