The Broncos will try to improve to 2-2 at home this week when they host a struggling Carolina Panthers on Sunday at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET, and the game will be broadcast on CBS.
This game will be all about opportunity for one of the two young quarterbacks starting in this game. For Denver’s rookie starter, Bo Nix, it is a chance to have a breakout game against a lackluster defense in front of a home crowd. But it could mean a lot more for who the Panthers are starting, namely, former No. 1 draft pick Bryce Young. Young’s career has gotten off to a rough start in Carolina. He was benched in favor of Andy Dalton earlier in the year. He’s back in the game this week because Dalton injured his thumb after getting in a car accident earlier in the week.
Carolina has done a good job protecting the QB this season, with just 14 sacks given up in seven games. Getting time to survey the field could be pivotal to Young getting on track early. However, that will be easier said than done against a Denver defense that is second in sacks with 28.

It would be nice to see Bryce Young show out and have a good game now that he’s back in the starting lineup. However, there is no reason to think things will change. Carolina would be better off leaning hard on the run to take pressure off Young. Chubba Hubbard is averaging 5.2 yards per carry this season; Carolina won the only game where he got 20+ carries. But even a solid performance by Hubbard in the run game will not be enough to help the Panthers win. Bo Nix will look like a Pro Bowler against a poor Carolina defense in a big win over the Panthers.
