The 30-30-10 Pittsburgh Penguins will host the 45-20-7 Carolina Hurricanes in a Metropolitan matchup on Tuesday. This is the final clash of the season, all three games won by the home team. Two of those went beyond 60 minutes so although there are 27 points between them in the standings, only an empty net goal in their first meeting stopped all three being one-goal games. The Pens are back from a three-game road swing where they picked up a single point but that was when coughing up a 4-0 lead in Colorado, losing 4-5 in overtime. That is the second time they have scored four but taken the loss in their last five games. Sidney Crosby had a point on all four goals but, like the majority of the season, it was not enough to save them.
Carolina is 15-5 in their last 20, back on a winning path against the Toronto Maple Leafs last time after losing a crazy one to the Washington Capitals 6-7 in a shootout which ended a five-game win streak. In six straight road games, the Canes have scored four or more goals which has helped them to top the league in goals scored in March. Jake Guentzel has 12 points in his first eight games in Carolina since being traded from Pittsburgh, and he is back to take on his old team here. He has gone straight in on the top line with Seth Jarvis and Sebastian Aho. Aho has 12 points in his last six games and Jarvis has eight goals in his last nine games so Guentzel has been a seamless addition.
