The Edmonton Oilers will take on the Carolina Hurricanes in an interconference matchup at Rogers Place on Friday.
These two produced a very entertaining seven-goal thriller in their first meeting of the season, and another fascinating game is expected on Friday night. The Oilers will try to win the regular-season series after defeating Carolina 4-3 in overtime in Raleigh on Nov. 15.
Beating the Hurricanes won’t be easy for Kris Knoblauch’s team, since Carolina is on an 8-1-1 run. Seattle ended Carolina’s five-game winning streak on Monday, but the Hurricanes responded with a strong 6-4 win over Vancouver on Wednesday.
Carolina has suffered defeats in consecutive games just five times all season and has taken over the top spot in the Eastern Conference. On Wednesday, the Hurricanes improved to 39-16-6, taking a four-point lead ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Oilers are 30-24-9 after beating the Ottawa Senators 5-4 in overtime on Tuesday night. They have struggled for consistency all season, but 68 points from 62 games still keep Connor McDavid’s crew in a playoff spot in a weak Pacific Division.
