NHL basement team, the Calgary Flames, continue their season on Tuesday night with a tough road game against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Scotiabank Arena.
The Flames have a 2-7-1 record and only five points on the board. The team averages the fewest goals per game in the league (2.00) and has the seventh-worst defensive record, allowing 3.50 goals.
Things appear to be grim for Ryan Huska's side, but Calgary will have regained some confidence from Sunday's 5-1 victory against the New York Rangers and their stingy defense.
Toronto also can't be happy with how the season has started. Everybody not named William Nylander seems to be sleepwalking, and Craig Berube's team has earned just nine points through nine games, going 4-4-1.
On Tuesday, the Maple Leafs will attempt to win back-to-back games for only the second time this season. However, they might have to do so without Nylander, who missed Saturday's 4-3 overtime victory against the Buffalo Sabres due to a lower-body injury.
Offensively, Toronto has leaned heavily on Nylander's line, and the team has maintained a strong attacking record, averaging 3.44 goals per game. However, defense has been a major concern for Berube, as the Maple Leafs have allowed 3.67 goals a night, the fifth-most in the league.
