The Calgary Flames will conclude a five-game road trip against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday at Little Caesars Arena.
While the Flames have won just two games this month, they are catching Detroit at a good time. The Red Wings have lost several forwards to injury, including their top two centers, Dylan Larkin and Andrew Copp. Todd McLellan’s side has struggled to cope with the absences, losing three games in a row.
Not long ago, the Red Wings were leading the Atlantic Division, but they have since dropped to fifth due to a poor run of results in March. Across seven outings this month, Detroit is 2-3-2.
The Flames sit second from bottom in the Pacific Division and are well out of the playoff race. The rest of the season will be all about developing the team for future campaigns. Head coach Ryan Huska will be desperate to see an improvement offensively, as his team averages a league-low 2.47 goals per game.
Calgary has been shut out twice in the last nine games, scoring more than two goals only three times during that stretch. A more effective power play could give the team a lift, as only Philadelphia converts at a lower rate with the man advantage than the Flames.
