Brentford face Aston Villa in a Premiere League game on Saturday. Brentford have had good form in recent years, ending mid-table or higher, but started the 2025-26 campaign losing. Newly promoted Nottingham Forest defeated them 3-1 in their opening game (Aug 17), emphasizing continued inconsistencies.
They had inconsistent results in summer competitions and friendlies: defeating Queens Park Rangers but failing to maintain clean sheets, drawing versus Wolfsburg. Manager Thomas Frank's side has promising forwards in Bryan Mbeumo and Ivan Toney (when fit; remember Toney's return from ban in doubt) and creative midfield players like Mathias Jensen.
Their defense, though, has looked shaky, and the team has had little luck in creating opportunities against well-drilled foes. In a nutshell, Brentford are classy but slightly flat as they begin this season. At home, they will hope to bounce back, using set pieces and swift passing to get at any visitor.
Aston Villa have also been impenetrable in the past and have made a promising start. They began with a home draw against Newcastle by a score of 0-0 on Aug 16, showing defensive strength. Their preseason has also been good, showing that the team is coming together for Unai Emery.
Villa play an energetic pressing style and look relatively healthy and prepared. The draw with Newcastle shows they can be difficult to break down, though converting chances (Watkins missed some big ones) remains an area of focus.

Our Brentford vs Aston Villa Prediction
Brentford’s attack will pivot around Bryan Mbeumo and Mathias Jensen. Mbeumo, the fleet-footed forward, provides width and finishing, and scored in pre-season. Jensen’s set-piece deliveries are a crucial source of goals (as seen in previous seasons). Defensively, keeper Mark Flekken and captain Pontus Jansson must organize the back line.
For Villa, the dangerous duo is Ollie Watkins and creative midfielder Jacob Ramsey (or John McGinn if fit). Watkins is a proven goalscorer, and Ramsey’s late runs into the box have produced goals. On the flanks, Moussa Diaby’s pace or Matty Cash’s runs could create chances. Ricardo Horta (if he stays from Portugal; doubtful) and new signing Jean-Philippe Mateta could also threaten. Villa’s experienced goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez ensures confidence at the back.
Given the teams’ contrasting starts, Aston Villa look slightly steadier. Villa’s recent solidity and patient build-up may give them an edge, whereas Brentford must shake off rust from the Forest loss. A neutral view suggests a close game on a Saturday morning – it could go either way.
If Brentford exploit set pieces or find Mbeumo in space, they could snatch victory. If Villa’s star forwards (Watkins, Ramsey) find the net, Villa might prevail. The likely outcome is a narrow win or draw, with Villa perhaps just preferred due to better early-season form. Either way, expect an entertaining match between two competitive sides. Our prediction for Brentford vs Aston Villa: Aston Villa to win.
