Against the Royals, the Red Sox just won their second series in May and three of their last four games. This Boston team, post-Alex Cora manager, has a long season ahead if they still aspire to compete in their division; in that sense, it's advantageous for them to have won the first two games of the series at Kauffman Stadium against a Royals team also last in their division.

On Tuesday, the Red Sox offense worked as fans had hoped; Boston totaled 15 hits, and what generated the most excitement was what happened at the top of the lineup: Duran went 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs in his best attempt so far to raise his average, which is still below. 200; Rafaela went 2-for-5, as did Abreu and Wilson Contreras.

Contreras, the Venezuelan catcher acquired last offseason, has been the man who has carried the team through this week. On Tuesday, he drove in three runs with his two-run homer in the eighth inning, helping to change the outcome of a game the Red Sox won in Atlanta.
