The Astros (68-56) continue to strengthen their hold on the top spot in the American League West after they notched their 12th win in 16 games this August. Houston is playing outstanding baseball this month, batting .263 with 68 runs per game and pitching a staggering 2.35 ERA. Back-to-back losses to the Orioles 4-2 and the Astros 5-4 were big blows for the Red Sox, who now trail the Orioles (73-53) by 7.0 games and the AL West-leading Yankees (73-52) by 7.5 games. Blanco also had a solid showing in his last start vs. the Red Sox, allowing just two earned runs through four innings in the Astros 8-4 win.
