The Red Sox will be happy to leave Fenway Park, where they've fared more poorly than well lately. Starting Friday, they'll begin their weekend series against the Guardians after Boston won games in Detroit against the Tigers and at Kauffman Stadium against the Royals. However, the Guards have won 7 of their last 10 and hold a 3-game lead in the AL Central over their pursuers, the White Sox.

While the Red Sox bullpen's ERA isn't terrible at a combined 3.33, the real issue is the surprising number of home runs they've allowed—26 already. On Thursday, they surrendered a grand slam to Acuña Jr. in the sixth inning, putting the game out of reach after Sale had left it tied 2-2 after being pulled following five innings of work. The Red Sox would ultimately lose the game 2-10. Their home record is now 9-19, and the more than 30,000 fans in attendance chanted "Sell the team!"

Meanwhile, the Guardians salvaged the final game of the series against the Nationals. Gavin Williams pitched seven innings and earned the win, as his teammates drove in all the runs; Ramírez, DeLauter, and Angel Martínez drove in the runs. Cleveland won that game as a -170 favorite.
