The Red Sox's playoff odds are above 90%, with a splendid second half from Cora's young team. Against the Orioles, last in their division, before the four-game series that began Monday, the Red Sox had struggled to beat Baltimore. In fact, the Orioles beat Boston in the previous four games at Fenway Park, but the Red Sox appear to have gotten even at Camden Yards: they won the first game 4-3, the second 5-0, and the third 3-2, improving their record to 74-60 and have a good chance of completing the sweep with Crochet pitching for them on Thursday.

However, the Red Sox won two of the three games in this 4-game series by one run, relying on timely hits, such as when Jarren Duran hit a 3-run homer to turn Game 1 around, and Rafaela did the same in the 9th inning of Game 3, turning it around with a two-run homer that allowed him and Duran to score, and Chapman to save another game, striking out all three batters he faced.

Even so, this electric Red Sox team hasn't shaken off its defensive sluggishness. Duran and Rafaela stared at each other as the ball fell between them, resulting in a mental error that momentarily gave the Orioles the lead.
