The young and electric Red Sox team lost ground to the Yankees for the first Wild Card spot and are now 4.5 games behind the Blue Jays for the division lead. The Red Sox have been unable to beat the D-backs in the desert; they lost 5-10 in Friday's game and 1-5 in Saturday's game.

With Roman Anthony's injury, the Red Sox lineup suffered a significant blow, but Japanese LF Masataka Yoshida returned to the lineup; he went 1-for-4 in the loss; he had gone 3-for-4 against the Guardians on September 2.
