One of the biggest rivalries in the NHL gets a new chapter on Saturday night, as the Montreal Canadiens welcome the Boston Bruins to Bell Centre.
Including the postseason, Saturday will mark the 942nd all-time meeting between the two teams. The sides go head-to-head while sharing the lead in the Atlantic Division with 22 points, adding even more intrigue to the matchup.
The Canadiens have been pacing the division for much of the season, but Martin St. Louis' men have hit a rough patch lately. On Thursday night, the Canadiens were picked apart 7-0 by the Dallas Stars, giving them a 1-2-2 record over the past five games.
The Bruins lost 5-3 to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, but they will travel to Montreal in high spirits. Prior to Thursday's action, Boston was riding a seven-game winning streak. It marks the team's longest run of victories since its dominant 2022-23 season, when the Bruins had 135 regular-season points, breaking Montreal's league record.
Boston failed to make the playoffs last season, but new head coach Marco Sturm has quickly turned things around. The B's offense has been particularly impressive, averaging 3.37 goals per game with a 25.8 percent power play.
