The Boise State Broncos (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) visit the Oregon Ducks (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) in a matchup where both teams are looking to make a statement. The Ducks already faced one team from Idaho in Week 1 and didn’t look very good at all, barely escaping from the Vandals in the second half. Oregon’s offense has tended to dominate under Dan Lanning, but he also hasn’t had a quarterback besides Bo Nix. So far, Dillon Gabriel hasn’t been up to that level, although it is early.

Boise State had no problem putting up points, but the Broncos really didn’t do a good job on defense. Georgia Southern moved the ball all game on Boise, piling up 461 yards of offense and scoring 29 points in the second half. Only Boise’s run game kept the game from being a loss, which isn’t a great thing to count on against Oregon’s fearsome run defense.

While Boise State hasn’t lost to Oregon, that was a different era for the Broncos. Boise State has since devolved into a good Mountain West program, but not the kind of team that can win at the power conference level. Last week, Boise rode Ashton Jeanty’s six rushing touchdowns to a win, but Oregon only gave up 49 yards on the ground a week ago. If the Broncos can’t move the ball, they’re not sticking around.

Oregon has to be better than it showed a week ago. The Ducks have yet to fail to cover a spread when coming off an ATS loss under Lanning, and they face a defense that should allow them to do whatever they want. Oregon should have the kinks worked out from Week 1, and the Ducks’ below-average performance in the first game has resulted in a lower spread than expected.
